Kimukatsu is a popular tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant in Japan serving high quality pork thinly sliced and stacked into 25 layers. It is then covered with fresh breadcrumbs and fried slowly in low temperature for 8 minutes resulting in a deliciously crunchy and tender mille feuille type of pork cutlet.
We stopped in their main Ebisu location for an early lunch. I remember years ago seeing long lines of patrons waiting to dine at this restaurant. Luckily we were seated right away. Kimukatsu serves 7 types of tonkatsu; Regular, Black pepper, Garlic, Cheese, Green onion, Japanese apricot and Yuzu. Patrons have the choice to eat with the cabbage salad (1,500 JPY) or order the Tonkatsu sets which come with unlimited miso soup (your choice of red or white miso), Japanese rice, cabbage salad, and pickles (1,980 JPY). Salad dressing and two types of tonkatsu dressing located at each table. They offer a number of sides as well. I`m not a pork cutlet fan, but this I loved. Kimukatsu also has a take away window where you can order your Tonkatsu with rice or order a Plain or Cheese Tonkatsu sandwich (700 JPY) and eat outdoors.
Kimukatsu has 18 locations worldwide, 4 locations in Tokyo, with future expansion in Korea.
