Teachers Introduction

wagara classesMichiko OzawaI lived in Ohio, America from 1997 to 2000 and learned the skills of decorative painting from American teachers. After I came back to Tokyo, I started to teach decorative painting.  I liked to copy the designs of American artists,  but one day, one of my friends said, ‘why do you always import from America?  Why don’t you export from Japan?’   Since that day, my mind started to work to make my original design.  I started to express ‘wagara’, which is Japanese traditional patterns which are applied on Japanese classic clothes, kimono, with the techniques of decorative painting.  Now I really enjoy to make wagara accessories, and corroborate wagara with western motives like Easter, Christmas and etc.
